Have you ever looked at your stash and felt utterly uninspired? Losing your crafting mojo (or Crojo) can happen to anyone - but we're here to help you get back on track.
It happens to the best of us - halfway through a project, and suddenly you just can't bear to look at it anymore. You put it away in the cupboard, pull out your needles or hooks, go through your pattern queue, and start thinking about casting on a new project.
And then it hits you.
You don't feel inspired by anything. Everything you look at seems dull, lifeless, or boring. You get frustrated and think, "I want to make something, but I don't know what I want to make!"
We've all been there. Don't worry. Here are some helpful tricks to help you get your crafting mojo back.
1. Talk it out
There's nothing more inspiring than a good old stitching group! The people in your local group are probably full of ideas and inspiration, and you'll leave wanting to cast on five new things. If you don't have a local group, talk to a crafting community online (you could even talk to us on Twitter @Laughing_Hens!) or chat with creative minded friends. Even if they aren't knitters or crocheters, they might have a unique perspective that gives you a new lease on your own creativity.
2. Pick a challenge
If you're struggling to find inspiration, sometimes learning a new technique or skill can be the way forward. If you've had your eye on a new stitch, or gazed longingly at a complicated pattern, now is the time to get stuck in with some video tutorials, books, yarn, and tools. Tackle that technique! Don't even think about what you'll do once you learn it, just focus on knowing this new skill inside and out. (Psst: if the skill you're looking to tackle is colourwork for knitters, check out our quickstart guide!)
3. Work on an old abandoned project - or frog it out
We all have the abandoned projects cupboard of doom - now is the time to take care of it. Make two piles: one for projects that you definitely want to complete, and one for projects that are so old that you're note even sure where the pattern is. Make a plan for the projects you want to complete, and frog (rip out) the abandoned projects so that you can repurpose the yarn.
4. Go do something else
It sounds counterintuitive, but trust us - sometimes, taking a step back from what's frustrating you can make all the difference. Take a walk in a local park, play a game, or go get coffee with a friend you haven't seen in awhile. Sometimes when you're consumed with something that's upsetting you, you can't see the forest for the trees. Taking a break can give your creative brain the rest it needs to come up with a fabulous new idea.
5. Treat yourself to something pretty
Whether it's a skein of new yarn, a needle set you've had your eye on, or an innovative new accessory, sometimes treating yourself to something nice can be the jumpstart you need to get crafting again. You'll be so excited about your new toy(s) that you won't be able to contain your enthusiasm - you'll be crafting again before you know it.
