Circular Knitting Needles

Often used for round knitting on clothing items and accessories such as socks hats or sleeves, Circular knitting needles are two straight needles joined by a flexible cable. They are available on fixed cords or with interchangeable tips with Addi's patented Addi-Click connection.

Circular knitting needles come with cables of varying lengths and needle tips of various sizes which it is important to choose the right size for your project. Fortunately we have a needle conversion chart to help you find the right size.

The tips of circular needles are also made from different materials such aas bamboo or metal. Bamboo and Olive wood are best for beginners with better grip. For more advanced knitters, metal is heavier and stronger and comes with a standard basic point or sharper lace point.

Generally great for any round projects, this type of needle is also useful for heavy projects to take the weight of the knitting off the needles as well as projects where each row has a large number of stitches. Knitting needles are a great investment and can last a long time. The most important thing is to make sure you have the right size and length.

What size knitting needle do I need?

In most cases, if you are following a pattern this should guide you in your choice, or you can ask yourself a series of questions:

To choose diameter, ask yourself: “how thick would I like the stitching?”

    • The thickness of the needle determines size of the stitch so the thicker the needle, larger the stitch and more elastic and loose the resulting fabric. A smaller diameter needle gives a thicker, tighter stitch.

To decide length of the needle, ask: “how big is the project I’m knitting?”

    • Although stitches can be squeezed onto any length needle, for ease, a larger project requires a longer needle. Likewise, a small circular project will require a shorter needle. Another factor is the yarn as thicker ones will need a longer needle to fit enough stitches on.
